Families of Lurucina was established by Ismail Veli Kirlapo in order to help people around the world reconnect with one another and preserve the history of the village.
Lurucina was one of the largest Turkish Cypriot villages on the island of Cyprus. The lists of family trees are given in each section with the lakabs/nicknames in inverted comma’s, for without the nicknames finding who’s who becomes an impossible task.
“The site is the result years of intensive research, meetings and correspondence with people dotted around the world. Without the help of so many amazing people who kept an extraordinary record, the research would never have come as far as it has. Many of the people and sources contributing to this research can be found in the sources and acknowledgement page. But of particular help was the assistance of Alper Mehmet who was kind enough to offer the records of Ibrahim Tahsildar, whose amazing record of the family trees of Lurucina helped bring this research to an advanced level. In fact, most of the older generations are from Ibrahim’s records. I am greatly indebted to his family for sharing such a valuable piece of work.
With thousands of names on the list, building a conventional style family tree became an impossible task. The decision on how to organize the families has been one of the most difficult decisions I was faced with, In the end it was decided to keep the same format as Ibrahim Tahsildar. His records were handwritten which makes it even more amazing. I apologize for any mistakes made in compiling the list. I look forward to any corrections or additions others may inform me off. While I would like to see other fellow Lurucinians do their own research in order to expand and diversify our knowledge, I can only hope that my own contribution helps to raise awareness on our history and roots.
Each one of us may have limited resources at our disposal, but together it can be massive. In-spite of massive effort there are nevertheless many gaps in the family information, the hope is that people will check each section and help fill in the gaps. Finally I apologize for any shortfalls this site may ultimately have. The research is on-going therefore any help or advice is most welcome. Above all any birth dates or even year of birth of any individual would help build a more cohesive time frame of the families. In the meantime I hope everyone enjoys the information to date as much as I have.”
